The Queen of Soul has had to cancel upcoming tour dates due to doctor’s orders. It has been reported that Aretha Franklin will not be performing at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey on March 25th, her 76th birthday. She will also not be performing on April 28th at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
“Aretha Franklin has been ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest completely for at least the next two months,”read the statement. “She is extremely disappointed she cannot perform at this year’s New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival as she had expected and hoped to.”
Franklin had announced plans to retire last year but instead has continued to perform and had announced 2018 tour dates. There have been rumors of her battling cancer but she has not confirmed that that is her main health issue. In 2016, she reportedly had a “highly successful” surgery regarding an undisclosed ailment.
