Ayesha Curry Doesn’t Want To Be Referred To As A Basketball Wife And We Totally Understand Why
When it comes to titles, for Ayesha Curry, none are more important than being a mother and wife.
“Obviously mom and wife first,” Curry said of just two of the many hats she wears. “Those are the two most important titles.”

She has been married to Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry since 2011, and they’ve known each other since they were teens. They share two daughters, Riley, 5, and Ryan, 2. And while you can often see her rooting for her husband at games, and sometimes sharing controversial opinions about them, she said in a new interview with ABC’s Nightline that she isn’t interested in being called an NBA wife.
“I don’t think I’ll ever call myself that,” she said. “I mean, I don’t think my husband would call himself ‘chef’s wife.’”
Facts.
As she clarified on Twitter, it’s only one small facet of who she is:
While it is a part of who I am, it does not define me. I think it’s important to clarify. There are so many layers to the modern day woman! https://t.co/gqkYJiDyri

But she has good reason not to want that title. Ayesha has grown to be quite the star in her own right, as well as a major businesswoman. At only 28, she’s grown quite the brand. She’s the host of the Food Network series Ayesha’s Home Kitchen, was co-host of ABC’s recent short-lived season of The Great American Baking Show, launched a cookware line, released a cookbook called The Seasoned Life, has a company called Little Lights of Mine, created a kid-friendly meal service called Homemade, was picked to be one of the new faces of CoverGirl, and was named as one of Forbes‘ 30 Under 30. Most recently, she opened her flagship restaurant, International Smoke, in San Francisco, but it’s her third with chef Michael Mina. So being thought of as a simple “NBA wife” would seemingly reduce her own accomplishments. And for Curry, forging her own path and bringing something to the table in her marriage is very important.
“One thing that my mom always told me was to never lose yourself inside of your marriage,” she said. “I’m happy that I’ve been able to find that so-called balance and be able to pursue my passions and take care of my family.”
However, Curry said that despite all that is on her plate right now, she and Stephen have been talking about the possibility of expanding their family. Stay tuned.
“It’s weird right now. Last year, he’s been like, ‘OK, time for another one,’” she said. “It’s like, give me a minute to breathe. But we are creeping up.”
Check out the mogul in the making juggling her many responsibilities:
