Beef Squashed: Read Azealia Banks’ Apologetic DM She Sent To Nicki Minaj

Aside from being equipped with dexterous rap bars, Azealia Banks’ career has been plagued with her affinity for feuding with other artists. Kendrick Lamar, Iggy Azalea, T.I., SZA, A$AP Rocky, you name it, Banks more than likely found herself in a heated debate with them — mostly taking place on social media.

Earlier this week, the Harlem bred MC decided to take jabs at Cardi B, who celebrated “Bodak Yellow” hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Instead of saluting her for the accomplishment, as it marked only the second time in history that a female rapper topped the charts unaccompanied, Banks referred to her as the “poor man’s Nicki Minaj” and criticized “black industry men” for praising her.

But while Banks displayed a lack of respect for Cardi, she backpedaled and apologized to Nicki Minaj. Interestingly enough, over the years, the two have also had their own beef that dates back to 2012. Apparently it all began when Azealia reportedly turned down the chance to tour with Nicki to concentrate on finishing her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste. From there, subliminal and not-so-subliminal tweets between the two went on for years.

Not gonna lie, I cried a bit when she responded. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ @nickiminaj #laguardiahighschool #femalerapforthemotherfuckingwin

Five years later, it’s apparent that Banks has had a change of heart as she reached out to Minaj via direct message and praised the “No Frauds” MC. “I really do enjoy your artistry and think you’re so intelligent and clever,” said Banks. “You have a really brilliant art mind and often times remind me a lot of myself.”

Minaj responded to Banks, seemingly accepting the apology, writing, “You’re very talented very smart. Focus on what really matters from now on.”
