Today is actress Nia Long‘s 48th birthday, and she has aged gracefully. Maybe that’s why so many famous men have pinpointed sis as their crush. (In the words of J. Cole, “My only regret was too young for Nia Long.”)

It helps that she takes great care of herself, and she does so by using natural products and eating healthy.

“I think natural is better,” she told New Beauty. “That’s not to say that I don’t like nice things when it comes to looking and feeling good but I do think that natural-based products work best for my skin. I was raised a vegetarian and have always eaten pretty healthy. When you feel good on the inside, you feel good on the outside too—I’m all about a full mind, body, soul and wellness connection.”

It also helps that the beauty gets facials often (and has gone to the same esthetician in LA for more than a decade), she understands the importance of exfoliation, and she doesn’t take her health for granted.

“African American women tend to gain a lot of weight in their hips and tummy and for us, if you wait too long to change your diet or start working out, it becomes too hard,” she said. “So I don’t fall victim to those problem areas, I eat healthy, organic foods and keep the weight off with a lot of yoga, Pilates and jump rope, which I try and do every day for the length of at least one song.”

“I’m not against anything that makes you feel and look good but I do believe that you should only do what’s needed,” she said to New Beauty. “I haven’t done Botox or fillers yet but for me, right now, I don’t feel that it is necessary.”

And if you ask us, it will never be necessary. Long is a long-time stunner, and as she gets closer to 50, that’s not changing. For proof of that, check out throwback photos of the star by hitting the flip.
