The military inspired trend has been sweeping the runways for a number of seasons, far removed from its original intended location of the army base. This season, draw your inspiration from the Fall/Winter 2016 catwalks, where dark neutral shades and bold metallic buttons officially brought the season’s looks into combat mode. Though the military jacket is the trend’s most ubiquitous staple, designers found a number of ways to use classic military uniforms as inspiration for a variety of their pieces. Burberry showcased a crisp, classic take on the military jacket, while at Gucci, models strutted down the runway in opulent, military inspired two-pieces and blazers. We’ve rounded up our favourite military inspired pieces that are sure to help you channel your inner soldier this season.
1) Vince Camuto Double-Breasted Military Coat $406: Beat the winter chill with this wool coat featuring a chic, feminine silhouette. The coat’s rich olive tone is complemented by bold gold hardware. Pair this piece with a preppy turtleneck and a pair of leather leggings for a trendy yet sophisticated look.
2) TOGA Patch-pocket crew-neck sweater $600: Make the military trend work appropriate with this chic patch pocket sweater. Bell sleeves with orange cuff lining provide a fresh update on this army green crew neck. Finish the look with a midi pencil skirt and statement heels for a fun take on office wear.
3) BDG Dixie Surplus Flight Coverall Jumpsuit $109: Fashion meets function in this laidback button down coverall, which can help you capture your tomboy side on the weekend. This comfy one piece has a slouchy, relaxed fit that results in an effortlessly cool look. Pair it with sneakers and a flannel tied at the waist to turn up the style factor.
4) Burberry Skybeck Military Cotton Silk Dress: Embrace a dressy spin on the military trend with Burberry’s elegant silk and cotton dress. Perfect for holiday parties, this little black dress is given a classic update with retro military inspired buttons.
