Cher To Cover Abba On New Album

Cher’s new album is set to be released on September 28, and thanks to her performance in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” that was released last month, she decided to make it an album of Abba covers.

The new album will be appropriately titled “Dancing Queen”, and will feature ten tracks, all of which are Abba hits. The songs include Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), The Name Of The Game, SOS, Waterloo, Mamma Mia, Chiquitita, Fernando, The Winner Takes It All and One Of Us. The singer was apparently inspired to record the album after shooting her scenes for the movie.

“I’ve always liked Abba and saw the original ‘Mamma Mia’ musical on Broadway three times,” Cher said in a statement. “After filming ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,’ I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking ‘why not do an album of their music?’ The songs were harder to sing than I imagined but I’m so happy with how the music came out. I’m really excited for people to hear it. It’s a perfect time.”

Besides the new album, and her appearance in Mamma Mia!, Cher will also receive a Kennedy Center Honor on December 2, and then on December 3 her Broadway musical “The Cher Show” opens, which she is producing. She is currently doing a residency at MGM Resorts in Las Vegas.
