Congrats! Mashershala Ali And Wife Amatus Sami-Karim Went Half On A Baby

If you were hoping to become Mrs. Mahershala Ali, the bad news is, that’s not going to happen, sis. But the good news is, the Moonlight, Luke Cage and former House of Cards star is expecting his first child with his actual beautiful wife, Amatus Sami-Karim. The actor, who is 42, delivered the news on Instagram without saying much, but he didn’t have to. Just look at that bump:

Ali and Sami-Karim, who is an artist and singer, married in 2013. The couple knew each other for almost 20 years as they initially dated while students at NYU. They reconnected to eventually fall in love and marry after the loss of her brother.

“She and I have known each other for a really long time—we just got married a year ago—but we’ve known each other for 17 years,” Ali told Elle.com in 2014. “So, at this point, she’s seen a big shift in things, but at the same time, she’ll ground me real quick if I start feeling myself a little too much. She’s very real, like, seriously.”

The couple are also #relationshipgoals. They go on road trips together, have a cat named Nas (after the rapper) and support each other when it comes to their faith. Ali is Muslim, and converted after going to a mosque with Sami-Karim, who was his girlfriend at the time.

“I just had this really strong response where this prayer is resonating in my body, and I’m, like, crying,” he said during an interview on Death, Sex Money. “I woke up a week later, and I get up and I go, ‘I gotta go to the mosque.’ Long story short, I converted that day.”

Congratulations to the couple on their first child. With all of Ali’s success on-screen and off, this has to be his best year yet!
