Jaleel White may have shut down any chance of a Family Matters reboot earlier this year, but perhaps the cast could find it in their hearts to come together if for no other reason than the fact that Darius McCrary needs a check, desperately.
The actor has reportedly filed documents saying he can’t afford to pay child support because he only made $500 over the past year. According to TMZ, Darius said his most recent acting job was a seven-day shoot that paid him $125/day and he hasn’t even received the check yet.
It’s not just child support the 41-year-old can no longer afford however, he’s also unable to see his daughter because he doesn’t have the money to pay for the court-appointed monitor. Because Darius and his estranged wife Tammy Brawner have restraining orders against one another his visits have to be monitored.
Given his financial state of affairs (he reportedly still owes the IRS $90,000 and had to move in with his aunt and uncle because he can’t pay rent), Darius is asking the court to lower his child support payments and allow unmonitored visits.
Interestingly, Darius is the founder of FathersCare, a non-profit organization created to empower fathers with resources, education, assistance, and access to legal networks to help improve their relationships with their children. It doesn’t appear the organization has been active since last year.
