Eve Is Not A Fan Of Nicki Minaj’s Paper Magazine Cover: “I Just Don’t Think It’s Right. Period”

The Talk

It might only be Eve’s second day on the job as the new co-host on CBS’ “The Talk,” but she’s not holding anything back when it comes to expressing her opinion.

Today’s topic of discussion was Nicki Minaj’s super racy Paper magazine cover which didn’t exactly break the mold — or the Internet — when it comes to what we’ve seen from her and many other female artists, but, nevertheless, it happened and Eve let it be known she is not a fan. The 39-year-old Ruff Ryder’s rapper explained:

“I worked with Nicki, I got to know her on ‘Barbershop’… she’s a nice person, she’s an amazing rapper, and as a lyricist I respect her… but as a woman, from my point of view, personally, I would not be able to do that. I think in this climate, it’s not good. I think every artist has a right to express themselves however they want to express themselves and I respect that as well. For me personally, as I started coming up in the business, I started realizing that young girls were looking up to me and younger people were looking up to me, and that — not that you want to be a role model, but it it is what you are.

“As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that I’d just rather be a voice that’s uplifting, that I can be a voice for those girls that might not have a voice, in a different way without showing myself off, with my braid. For the Nicki fans, because I know I’m going to get some tweets from her fans, I love her, respect her. Go women in hip-hop. It’s not my thing. I just don’t think it’s right period.”

Eve received a rush of applause for her take on the cover, which Sheryl Underwood agreed with, adding, “For me, also, it takes away from the lyrics, from the music because it’s so graphic and I just don’t think that girls need to see or think that’s the way to go.”

Personally, I don’t think Nicki has to limit her artistry or self-expression for the sake of young girls, I just find the imagery tired. We’ve seen pasties Nicki, we’ve seen booty out Nicki, we’ve seen let me lick you up and down Nicki. What else you got?

What’s your take on the Paper mag cover and Eve’s reaction?
