Fox Films Shuffles Several Big Movies Releases
If you were looking forward to seeing X-Men: Dark Phoenix this November, you are going to be disappointed. 20th Century Fox announced late Monday that they were moving a few of their upcoming releases around, and the latest installment in their mutant franchise is one of the films.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix was originally set to open on November 2nd of this year, but now it’s not due to hit theaters until February 14 of 2019. This may not bode well for the movie, considering it went from coming out during blockbuster season, to a month where films don’t usually do as well. With the critical failure of the previous X-Men film, Apocalypse, Fox had a lot riding on Dark Phoenix. Another X-Men spin-off, The New Mutants was also moved.
The New Mutants was moved late last year from a 2018 release to February 22, 2019. Now however it’s been bumped once again, this time to August 2. The film was set to introduce horror elements to a superhero franchise, but it has had several problems along the way. They are even planning reshoots for the film that will introduce a new character.
And the film that benefits from all these changes? The Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, which is now set to open on November 2nd.
