People magazine has been naming a sexiest man alive since 1985 when Mel Gibson took the title, and this year, taking over from country singer Blake Shelton who won last year, is Idris Elba.
The 46 year old English megastar is the star of both the big and small screen, with TV shows such as The Wire and Luther to his credit, while also appearing in such films as Thor, Molly’s Game and The Mountain Between Us. He is also a 2016 recipient of the Order of the British Empire for his services to drama and the winner of a 2012 Golden Globe. Of course he was still shocked when he won People Magazine’s highest honor.
“I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’” Elba told People. “Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.”
The actor recently had a bit of fun fanning the flames of the James Bond rumour mill over the summer, where he teased people into believing he was about to be named Bond. This of course was on the heels of a rumour saying it was a done deal. The actor is currently filming The Fast and The Furious Spin-off Hobbs and Shaw with The Rock, and is preparing to star in the new TV series Turn Up Charlie and the big screen adaptation of the musical Cats.
