John Legend “Disappointed” In Kanye’s “Publicity Stunt” Meeting With Trump
Out of all of the celebrities who’ve commented on or joked about Kanye West’s meeting with Donald Trump yesterday, John Legend is the only person to speak up who truly is connected to the rapper. He’s good friends with West, and wife Chrissy Teigen is close with West’s wife, Kim Kardashian. Despite all of the warm fuzzies it’s assumed they share, Legend couldn’t hold his tongue. He’s “disappointed” in his friend.
In an interview with French media outlet Clique, Legend responded to the following Tweets from West about his controversial meeting with Trump:
I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues.

These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.

I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.

“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to him about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt,” Legend said to Clique. “I think Kanye was a publicity stunt. And I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country. And I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people. For Kanye to support that message is very disappointing.”
When asked if certain things going on in West’s mind right now may have influenced his opinions on Trump, Legend said whatever’s encouraging the rapper’s support of the president-elect, he’s not here for it.
“Whatever’s in his mind, I disagree with.”
Both Legend and Teigen have been pretty outspoken of Trump in the media, both in terms of social media and on television.
As for West, he still manages to seem unbothered by the criticism. Instead, he’s spent his time posting an autographed image of Trump’s TIME cover on Twitter.

And we thought it was hard being West’s fan. It must be even tougher to call him your friend…
