Joni Sledge Of Sister Sledge Passes Away At 60

Untimely deaths of legendary musical acts have been adding up at an unprecedented rate between the world’s loss of Prince, David Bowie and George Michael just last year.
It was reported on Saturday (Mar. 11) that Joni Sledge, a founding member of the group Sister Sledge (known for the1979 dance hit “We Are Family”), was found dead on Friday (Mar. 10) at her Phoenix home. Sledge’s publicist, Biff Warren, broke the unfortunate news with CNN on Saturday as well. Sledge was 60 years old.

“Yesterday, numbness fell upon our family. We are saddened to inform you that our dear sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin, Joni passed away yesterday. Please pray for us as we weep for this loss. We do know that she is now eternally with Our Lord,” the band said Saturday in a statement posted on their website and Facebook page.
Joni’s death comes as a surprise to the Sledge family as she had not been ill prior, Warren also shared. As of now, the cause of death is unknown.
