Makeup Spring Cleaning: When To Throw Out Makeup
Check most women’s bathroom drawers or countertops and you’re sure to find a variety of makeup products, some new and some a little old. It’s tempting to hold on to makeup, it oftentimes isn’t cheap and it can seem like a waste to throw out seemingly good products.
Unfortunately, old makeup can be a problem, not only does it clutter up drawers, it can lose its effectiveness, not be as flattering and can even cause skin irritation. So, how do you know when its time to throw out makeup? Since a lot of makeup doesn’t have an expiry date on it, its oftentimes up to you to use your judgement and follow a general timeline for makeup products. See below for a breakdown.
Mascara: Throw out at 3 months
Liquid Eyeliner: Throw out at 3 months
Liquid Foundation: Throw out at 6 – 12 months
Pencil Eyeliner: Throw out at 2 years
Powder Eyeshadow: Throw out at 2 years
Lipstick: Throw out at 2 years
Lip Gloss: Throw out at 2 years
Blush: Throw out at 2 years
