Michael B. Jordan Says Intense Workout Routine And Diet Hasn’t Been So Good For His Social Life

It takes a lot of hard work and a strict diet (as well as genetics) to be able to look as good as Michael B. Jordan. And even though he’s already in great physical shape, packing on the muscle for his role in Creed in 2015, that doesn’t mean that Jordan isn’t still working out as hard as he did then to bulk up. The actor told Ellen DeGeneres he wants to be in and stay in the best physical form possible.

“I’m just trying to stay in shape for as long as I can,” he said. “Why not? Right?”

The 30-year-old actor said that he was motivated to kick his workout regimen up a notch when the promotional tour for Creed ended. Soon after, he was asked by the film’s director, Ryan Coogler, to go from playing Adonis Creed to Eric Killmonger for Black Panther.

“I was on the press tour for Creed and Ryan called me up and was like, ‘Aye, we’re about to go shoot this other movie. Do you wanna do it?’ And I was like, ‘Cool. Let’s go have some fun.’ And that was literally it,” he said. “From that moment on, I just decided to dedicate everything to getting in shape and to becoming Erik Killmonger.”

It hasn’t been easy on him though — or his bladder. Jordan said that part of his regimen involves some serious hydration at all times.

“Do you know how often you have to use the bathroom when you’re drinking a gallon, especially in the middle of the night?” he asked. “You’re trying to sleep; you’ve got to wake up and use the bathroom. You’re like, ‘Oh, my God. I’m just going to hold it.’ It just doesn’t quite work out.”

It also isn’t easy on his social life. Not when he has multiple sessions in the gym each day to cover and a whole lot of food to consume, too.

“I would work out two to three times a day, eat six times a day,” he said. “It’s hard to go out to a club or a party when you’re like, ‘Oh, wait! Meal prep! We got to go pop this thing in the microwave and eat food. It’s tough to socialize when you’ve got to get in shape like that.”

But it’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make. The production for Creed II will get underway in April and Jordan doesn’t have any time to waste. Or at least he doesn’t think so.

“As soon as I leave here, I’m going to the gym,” he said as though he were off to run a simple errand. He’s “in the process of getting back in shape and getting that together.”

And if you’ve watched his social media (which I’m sure you have), you’ve probably seen that he’s well on his way to near perfection:
