As Fashion Month continues, the Italian runways officially draw to a close today with the final day of Milan Fashion Week Fall 2018. In true Italian fashion, the Milan shows were filled with explosive colour and flamboyant embellishment. From the eccentric glamour of Gucci to dark neutrals at Fendi, here’s our guide to the leading Fall 2018 collections at MFW.
Gucci
Although Gucci may be known for extravagance and gaudy designs under the leadership of Alessandro Michele, this new collection proved to be much more thoughtful. Michele drew his themes from everything from technology to the modern age of Hollywood. Models strut the catwalk with mismatched patterns, watercolour-toned floral blouses and smart tweed pantsuits suitable for the corporate gal. From the brightest of garden shades to lavish embellishment to neutral suiting, this was an eclectic and edgy collection that covered it all.

Dolce Gabbana
At Dolce Gabbana, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana unveiled a Fashion Devotion line that drew influences from the Catholic Church. Influenced by a religious theme and the Vatican, the co-creative directors revealed designs like a black dress trimmed with a white lace collar. Modest, oversized suits shared the stage with voluminous frocks, collared blouses and traditional DG beadwork and embellishment.

Versace
At Versace, Donatella Versace played with a strong and sexy 1980s theme. As a result of her 80s inspiration, the Versace catwalk featured slick leather coats and plenty of psychedelic brights. From plaid blazers and pleated skirts to fringe, cinched waists and short dresses, this decade was truly back.

Fendi
Co-creative directors Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi returned to minimalism, neutrals and fierce businesswoman vibes at Fendi. While the other Milan runways revealed colour and energy, strong silhouettes were fully in control here. Belted coats, big knit sweaters and fur outerwear brought a practical edge to the collection. With tones such as grey, camel and hints of red and white, the colour scheme was understated, sophisticated and ladylike.
