NBC Announces That Hair Will Be Its Next Live Musical

Things are about to get interesting. From Fox’s Grease Live! to NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live, TV live musicals have become the latest craze. NBC has decided to carry on after their success with Jesus Christ Superstar, and have announced that their next project will be Hair Live! Of course it is a rather controversial decisions, due to the fact that the play has some rather controversial scenes as a part of it, but in the end it continues NBC’s trend of putting on more adult themed programming.

The 1960s classic debuted on Broadway back in 1968, and it follows the story of a group of hippies living in New York City. The group are trying to avoid serving in the military as part of the Vietnam War, and depicts scenes of drug use and was well known for its on stage nudity. How these scenes will be edited for TV is unknown at this point. The counterculture play is also well known for its musical numbers such as “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” and “Good Morning Starshine”, both of which played on the radio as well.

Hair was revived in 2009, and won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. It was also made into a 1979 theatrical film. At this point, no cast have been named for the project, and the only release date is Spring 2019.
