One of the biggest hits of 2017 was HBO’s Big Little Lies. Not only was the series based on the best selling novel by Liane Moriarty, but it also had a cast that included Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, 2-time Oscar nominee Laura Dern, and young stars Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz. The story follows the lives of three mothers who head down a dark path that eventually leads to murder. The series went on to win 4 Golden Globes and 8 Emmys, and even though the entire novel was adapted for the first season, a second season was announced. Star Nicole Kidman told Variety in an interview though that a third season isn’t very likely.
“I think it would simply be hard to get the whole group together. But we would love to do it,” Kidman told Variety. The cast got even bigger for the second season too, adding three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep. Kidman said Streep put her name in the hat without even seeing a script. “She goes, I suppose now I have to join you. And we were like, What? That’s how much she wanted to support us.”
Streep isn’t the only change for season 2 either. Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée moved on from the series, and was replaced by Andrea Arnold.
HBO hasn’t announced when season two of Big Little Lies will air, but it is expected to be early next year.
