Ocean’s 8 Opens At Number One

Whether the Ocean’s Eleven franchise survives beyond one female led film or not is still up for debate, but for now the ladies have taken the top spot at the box office as Ocean’s 8 opens at number one.

It’s been a few years since Ocean’s 8 was first announced. The film was seen as a spin-off from the film series starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, but in a twist it would be having the women take the lead this time around. Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett,  Anne Hathaway and Rihanna signed on to star, and from there all we could do was wait and see if it did better than the female-driven version of Ghostbusters did. All we can say at this point is so far, so good. The film opened with the largest opening for the franchise, with an estimated $41.5 million. That was good enough for the top spot, although expectations are that the film will only hold onto the spot for a week as The Incredibles 2 should claim the title this week. The opening numbers though are above what was expected in more forecasts, and the films reviews were decent. As usual audiences seemed to enjoy the film better than the critics.

There is room for a sequel, and if the film continues to play well in the coming weeks, which could be difficult with Jurassic World 2 also coming soon, we can expect an announcement to be made soon.
