Like the previous years, TIFF 2017 has been all about the red carpets. Real Style was on several, including the ones last Friday evening for “Stronger” and “The Upside”.
“Stronger” is the true story of Jeff Bauman, an ordinary man who was caught in the infamous 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. He’s forced to learn to walk again after losing his legs in the attack, and the film shows all of his struggles, both emotionally and physically, to do so. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Bauman, and Tatiana Maslany as his girlfriend Erin. Both of the stars walked the Red Carpet for Friday’s premiere, and Jeff Bauman himself took his rightful place alongside Gyllenhaal.
The other big red carpet on Friday night was for “The Upside”. The film is a remake of a French film called The Intouchables, and it follows the story of a wealthy paraplegic and an unemployed man with a criminal record he hires to help him. Bryan Cranston stars in the lead role, with Nicole Kidman and Kevin Hart co-starring. While Kevin Hart couldn’t be there on Friday night to support his latest comedy, both Cranston and Kidman were, and Kidman even brought along her husband, country music’s Keith Urban, to walk alongside her.
