Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby & Amandla Stenberg To Star In Film Adaptation Of The Hate U Give

The Hate U Give, the debut work from author Angela Thomas, made a huge splash. The young adult novel became a New York Times bestseller. It’s currently being sold in 22 countries and now, it’s being adapted into a feature film.

Amandla Stenberg has been cast in the lead role of Starr, the 16-year-old girl who grew up in poverty but attends a suburban prep school. After a police officer shoots her best friend, she finds herself even more aware of the two different worlds as she tries to speak her truth.

Reports recently announced that Regina Hall will play Starr’s mother and actor Russell Hornsby, who we saw most recently in Fences, will portray Starr’s father.

George Tillman Jr., the man behind the classic Soul Food, Men of Honor and Notorious, will direct.
