The Hip Hop and Politics panel at the Revolt Summit got pretty heated this weekend. While discussing the “Make America Great Again” slogan that Donald Trump launched his presidential campaign on, things between panelists T.I and Candace Owens got pretty intense.
During their debate, T.I pressed her about the meaning of the Republican’s catch phrase that she was defending.
“When you say Make America Great Again, which period are we talking about?” the Atlanta spitter asked. “[Is it] the period when women couldn’t vote? The period when we were hanging from trees? The crack era? Which period in America are you trying to make great again?!”
Owens could barely respond as she was met with boos from the crowd and continued criticism from the “You Don’t Know Me” rapper.
“I actually think that I would totally rock a hat right now that says Make Black America Great Again,” she responded, which ruffled Tip and crowd’s feathers even more.
“Which period was America great that we’re trying to replicate? Which era was it? Tell me,” he fired back.
Owens then began to make a point by pointed out that slavery has happened all over the country, and of course that didn’t end well either. T.I continued to shut her down and was met with cheers from the crowd.
