The 4 Best Women’s Moments At The Bet Hip-Hop Awards

Hip-hop hasn’t typically been a genre that’s kind to women, either on or off the mic, but every now and then female MCs — and the women in male MCs lives — get the respect they deserve. And when they do, attention must be paid.

So, in honor of the 2017 BET Hip-Hop awards which took place in Miami this past weekend and aired on the network tonight, we shout out the four best women’s moments during the show.

Cardi B Winning Hustler of the Year

When we heard the category name, we knew it was a given Cardi B should be the winner. We’re just happy the hip-hop community agreed and is recognizing her grind as well. You don’t become the first female rapper to top the Billboard chart in almost 20 years without hustling hard and we’re happy Cardi also took home the award for best new artist.

Rapsody’s All-Female Cypher

There may be a shortage of mainstream female MCs but there certainly wasn’t one when it came to the cypher featuring Rapsody, Leikeli 47, Kash Doll Tokyo Jets, which made it all the more special. Beef isn’t the only reason women in hip-hop come together.

Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow Performance

You can’t have a hip-hop show without a performance of the rap anthem of the summer which just so happens to be a track by a female MC.

DJ Khaled Shouting Out His Queen

DJ Khaled almost disappointed us when he only shouted out God and his son when he accepted the award for collabo of the year for wild thoughts. But when he came out and thanked his “queen” after the break, we had to give kudos for celebrating his family as a whole.
