The X-Files Revival To Return For A New 10-Episode Season
The truth is still out there. After a successful 6 episode revival in 2016, fans were hoping the popular series would get yet another run. Their prayers were answered yesterday when Fox finally announced that a deal was in place to make an 11th season happen.
Ever since the X-Files revival ended last year in February it had been well known that everyone involved, including series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as well as creator/executive producer Chris Carter and the Fox network, wanted the series to come back for another run. The problem was getting everyone together. All parties have a very busy schedule after all, and then there’s the fact that Anderson had young children and lives with them in London. Leaving them for extended periods is not something that is easily done. Still a deal was worked out, and production will begin this summer.
The X-Files originally aired for nine seasons, beginning in September 1993. It followed the story of FBI agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases. It returned in 2016 for 6 episodes, 14 years after the original run went off the air. The revival was last season’s number two broadcast drama, averaging nearly 16 million viewers.
There is no official word on when the X-Files new season will air, but Fox has stated that it will be ready for the the 2017-2018 season.
