Watch Emma Watson Hide Books In The London Underground
If you happened to be in London yesterday, riding the underground subway, and if you were lucky, you might just have seen Emma Watson. The 26 year old actress and activist spent part of her day roaming the London Underground, hiding copies of Maya Angelou’s book Mom Me Mom.
If you are wondering why the star of the upcoming movies Beauty and Beast movie was hiding the book, it’s because of a collaboration between her feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf, and the Books on the Underground project. The Books on the Underground project was created by London’s Leo Burnett ad agency back in 2013, and it shares books on, as you probably already suspected, The London Underground. Anyone can participate by leaving a book on the subway, and to let people know it’s part of the project the book should have a special Books on the Underground sticker attached to it. People are then encouraged to share photographs or tweets about where they discovered the book.
Watson shared her news on Instagram Tuesday, showing herself dropping the books off. In one video you see her dropping a book off as she rides an escalator down. Books on the Underground posted their own photos on Instagram on Wednesday morning, noting that more copies of the book will be left today, with notes from Emma Watson inside.
She shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday, posting photos of Maya Angelou’s book all around the subway system. In one video, she places copies on the escalator median, left for potential readers to pick up as they descend to the trains.
