Watch The First Trailer For Netflix’s The Defenders
Not only did Netflix finally release a trailer for their superhero team-up series The Defenders, but they’ve also given us a release date as well. Now that’s something to be excited about.
We’ve known for awhile that Netflix had been planning for their Marvel superheroes to meet up, and we know they’d wrapped filming a couple of months ago, but what we didn’t know is when we’d get to see a trailer, or when the show was going to be released. Both of those questions were answered this morning however when the trailer for The Defenders came out, and attached to it was the release date of August 18th.
The Defenders follows the story of heroes Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). All four have had their own Netflix series by now (with Daredevil even having a second season), and this is the story of how they all meet. With the exception of Jessica Jones having already met Luke Cage in her own self titled series, none of the others have met before, even though they all operate in New York.
In the trailer you get to see Daredevil in his secret identity of Matthew Murdoch come to the defense of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage running into Iron Fist’s, well iron fist, and you also get to see the first shots of Sigourney Weaver playing the villain Alexandra. The trailer also confirms the return of Elektra (Elodie Yung) who was killed in season two of Daredevil, but whose body was taken away by the villainous clan of ninjas, The Hand. She appears to be on the wrong side as well, as you can see her kicking Daredevil through a window.
Several supporting cast members from the various series’ can be seen in the trailer as well, including Misty Knight (Simone Missick) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). Scott Glenn narrates the trailer, who played Daredevil’s mentor Stick.
The Defenders arrives on Netflix on August 18.
