Last night BET aired its inaugural concert special, “BET HER FIGHTS: BREAST CANCER.” Hosted by Naturi Naughton, the one-hour special served to raise awareness of the disease which affects more than 30,000 Black women each year and celebrate those who are battling and have overcome cancer.
In addition to the powerful messages of encouragement and social action, breast cancer activist Karen Eubanks Jackson, CEO of Sisters Network Inc., was honored for her commitment to increasing local and national attention to the impact of breast cancer on the African American community and breast cancer survivor Ericka Hart was recognized for her “boundless dedication to exposing the socio-political impact of breast cancer in the black community.” Audience members were also treated to inspirational performances by Keyshia Cole, Sevyn Streeter, Alice Smith, and Xscape.
Click through to see highlights of the night, which included breast cancer survivors Richard Roundtree and Vanessa Bell Calloway discussing how to recognize signs of the disease and cope with its effects and Lala Anthony and Bershan Shaw sharing how breast cancer has affected their lives.
