Yvonne Orji And Issa Rae Celebrating Her Golden Globe Nom In Headscarves Is Everything
You know your bond is real with someone when you can call, or better yet, Facetime them at the crack of dawn and you’re met with pure glee and laughter instead of a scowl. But then again, Issa Rae had a lot to be happy about when Insecure co-star Yvonne Orji Facetimed her this morning.
Rae found out that she received a Golden Globe nomination for her acting work on Insecure, nabbing a Best Actress in a Comedy nod for her hit HBO show. She was one of many actors and actresses of color to receive a nomination, but she was the only one to celebrate it like this:
That time @issarae got nominated for a @goldenglobes and I FaceTimed her at the butt-crack of dawn and went through all the emotions of pure excitement in our matching headscarves! #BecauseThatsWhatFriendsAreFor! #SeeWhatYouCanDoWithAniPhoneIssa?! #FirstTimeFaceTiming #TheresNoGoingBack #HerFlawlessSkinAngersMe ? #SheReallyDidWakeUpLikeThis #ThatsThatGoldenGlobesGlow ??? #insecureHBO #DasMyBoo! #ProtectDemEdges??

Shout out to those headscarves protecting their star-studded edges.
Orji also showed her good friend love by posting this video on Instagram, sharing a sentimental moment between the two actresses:

As for Rae, she told Vulture that her headscarf chat with Orji was the highlight of her day — aside from getting the nomination news.
“She was one of the first texts I got. And then she was like, let me FaceTime,” Rae said. “I just got an iPhone, so that’s always been like a running joke; she always clowns me for having an Android. So she was like, ‘we FaceTime-ing.’ And she just had me dying laughing early in the morning. It’s always so sweet and supportive. And that was definitely a highlight — that was when it sunk in.”
According to Rae, the nomination was bittersweet. She acknowledged that the series wouldn’t be what it is if it weren’t for Orji and all of the other players who help bring Insecure to life.
“It was bitter sweet, if I’m being 100 percent honest. I was like, this is dope as hell, but it sucks that my name is the only one associated with all the hard work that everybody put in,” she said. “Cause I want everybody to know that our showrunners are dope, our director’s dope, our writers are dope, our cast is amazing. So it’s like that and, the other end, I’m like, ‘muthaf–ka, I got a Golden Globe nomination!!’ So it’s both.”
